I Tried These Amazon Versace Dupes — So You Don’t Have To
You’ve seen them everywhere.the Versace Medusa Platform Pumps
The sky-high, super satin, stacked and silky platform heels known as the VERSACE MEDUSA AEVITAS PLATFORM PUMPS.
The $1495 luxury platforms started popping up everywhere — from Beyonce to Tracie Ellis Ross to Bebe Rexha — as soon as they were launched in winter 2022. So many celebs were wearing them that ELLE MAGAZINE and HARPER’S BAZAAR even wrote articles about them! And while the luxe sheen on the shoe and diamanté on the ankle straps might have tugged at your heartstrings, the $1495 price tag might have not.
Personally, I found myself torn. These shoes looked amazing but, as a SUSTAINABLE STYLE & FASHION EXPERT, I tend not to buy the trends. I don’t feel great purchasing things that could end up in a landfill once the item’s 15 minutes of fame has faded. But these babies kept showing up in the fashion blogosphere, and the temptation persisted.
Besides, the golden rule of sustainability still stands: Any fashion item is sustainable if you wear it for years!
So I snagged these satin platforms from the Amazon Dupes Department (oh, how I wish that were a real thing!) for $52 BIG ONES. It is my Duty to the Dupes to report on these bad boys so that you can know if they’re worth going down an AMAZON PRIME DAY rabbit hole. First Impressions in Five Words:
These shoes stunk so bad!
If you’re looking for a stellar shoe that smells like the inside of a Sears & Roebuck Tire Change store, boy, have I got a rec for you. But, if you are looking for a stunner satin platform for $1443 off, you might just put up with the smell. I opened the box in the vestibule of my apartment building and it made the whole hallway reek like rubber. I don’t know what they are making these shoes with, but it smells like straight-up tar. I couldn’t even try them on. I had to open the box and leave them on the patio all night to air out. The next day, the smell was still noticeable but it had dissipated. They glistened in the sun on the patio and looked like perfect Cinderella slippers – mod Millenium style. I started to appreciate the look more than mind the stench and decided it was time to try these beauties on.

As you can tell in this video, I was delightfully surprised how comfortable they were. They were really quite comfortable for a 5- or 6-inch shoe. The hot pink satin was luxurious and had a beautiful sheen. I even love how they duplicated the stacked footbed at the ball of the foot. It elevated the look, and not just literally. The crystals at the ankle were gorgeous (although the real Versaces have color-matched crystals, not clear ones) and they felt secure when they were on. Most importantly, as a woman in the petite club, I loved that they gave me a lot of height without having to wear a tall stiletto. All the comfort of a platform with the boost I look for in a heel.
They Ran Into the Real Thing
I actually bought these shoes for a fashion blogger trip to Paris, hoping to inspire all with my little New York Fashion insider tip. Well, it turns out when you hang with fashion bloggers, your little secret might be shared with like-minded individuals. Not only did I have them in hot pink, my friend Erin (follow her @erinlynn_style) had them in black and our host (queen @shestyledwhat) had just purchased the real ones in baby pink at the Paris Versace store. I guess birds of a fashion feather flock together.
Did They Compare Perfectly to the $1500 Versace Medusa Aevitas?
Come on, these are an Amazon Dupe, honey. No, they did not look exactly like the real thing. But… did they come close enough that spending another 1.5K seemed ridiculous? 100%.
