I Rented My Jewelry from Switch So You Don’t Have To — A Review on Switch Jewelry

Have You Dreamed About Renting Your Jewelry From Switch?

If you want to try luxury goods, designer jewelry and the hottest runway accessories, but are afraid to take the leap into renting your rocks — have I got the blog for you. I tried SWITCH JEWELRY RENTAL for over a year and am here to spill the tea! Whether you want to try a vintage necklace to pair with your rented wardrobe or want to pretend to be the Ladies who Lunch, this sustainable fashion mainstay might be just the thing for you! I love that it’s rentable, fashionable and easy, giving you the “luxe” experience without breaking the bank. Here’s my honest and always #real feedback on renting jewelry from Switch.

First Impressions in Five Words

Holy Cow, They Have Chanel!

I first heard about Switch from a rental buddy and had a bunch of questions. How did it work? What were the costs? Is it really worth it?

Well, here are your answers, friends. SWITCH is a jewelry rental subscription service that allows you to rent fine and designer costume jewelry for as low as $45/month. We’re talking LUXURY designers here – from CHANEL to TIFFANY & CO to HERMES. And if I was gonna try this service out, you know I had to go big or go home. So my first piece was from the French mother ship, Chanel.

They have quite a selection on the site, so choosing my first piece was actually quite hard! The site is filled with statement pieces, vintage and fashion jewels that will make you scroll on hours to no end. With their month-to-month subscriptions at various price tiers, you can go dabble in those beautiful bijoux for as long as you want. I don’t know about you, but I feel like you can never have too much jewelry. And as long as you are a member with Switch, you earn monthly credits that you can use to buy jewelry. If don’t feel like parting ways with a particular piece? Then go ahead and keep them for good.

My #Real Review of Switch Jewelry Rental

In my year renting with Switch, I rented over $8900 of designer jewelry. Some of these were fine jewelry, made of diamonds and 14K, and some were fashion jewelry by brands like Dior, Balenciaga and Gucci. I ordered 8 pairs of earrings, 6 necklaces, 1 bracelet, 1 ring and, apparently, 1 pin, which I have no recollection of renting. Here are some of my favorite pieces I tried in my first year with Switch.

#1 CHANEL HORSE DESIGN NECKLACE BELT

What’s the thing they say in fashion? Go big or go home? Well, this iconic $1525 necklace is about as big as we’re gonna get. Renting Chanel to the Nth degree. This vintage Horse Medallion necklace/belt is jaw-droppingly gorgeous and OMG does this grab some attention. It consists of a rolo-link chain design linked with multiple medallions, each featuring a horse riding motif and that signature CC logo. And even better news? She’s not just a necklace, she’s a belt!

That’s right, friends, this baby here has a hook closure that can be fastened at any length along the belt. I mean, why settle for a Chanel necklace when you can also rock a Chanel belt? This is Nene Leakes rich.

I couldn’t give it justice wearing it as an ordinary accessory, so I paired it with a sexy black gown by Derek Lam courtesy of Rent the Runway. The black and gold pairing is such a great combination for creating that elegant and daring presence. We’d say she was absolutely worth the $45/month.

#2 CHANEL GOLD DROP CC ENAMEL EARRINGS

I started off renting jewelry on Switch by ordering something tried and true… these adorable little Chanel button earrings. They’re a perfect little classic earring — small enough to rock with jeans or yoga pants, but delicate enough for an evening out. This cute pair of drop earrings are made from brass featuring the signature interlocked CC logo crafted in black enamel. If you feel like splashing some cash and holding on to these babies, they are a great investment. But, I was ready to try something else, so I packed ‘em up and sent them back to SWITCH.

#3 DEMARSON CALYPSO CURVE HOOP EARRINGS

WHITE WOMAN with blonde hair and big gold hoop earrings with a man in the background at a dinner table

I am a huuuuuuuge fan of extra large hoops. And these curved, contoured hoop earrings by Demarson were perfect for adding that little touch of glamour. Fashioned in 12K plated gold with a little emerald Swarovski crystal at the back, these giant gold hoops are some of the most comfortable ones I’ve ever worn. You can rock these like celebs by styling your hair in a sleek ponytail or bun and pair them with anything from denim to an evening dress. They were so good, I kept them for about two months before sending them back. I kinda shouldda bought them!

Retail value: $240
Rental: $0

#4 REBECCA DE RAVENEL MOTHER OF PEARL PINK FLOWER EARRINGS

Holy mother of pearl, do these stand out!

This Bahamian-bred jewelry line is handmade from exquisite natural sea shells and organic materials. These mother of pearl earrings are designed to resemble a blossomed flower. The center’s made of a beautiful pink silk cord. You know I had to take these bad boys out for something dramatic, so I matched them with a white fringe pom pom dress from ARMOIRE on the 4th of July! These giant statement earrings from REBECCA DE RAVENEL are great to pair with some lovely daytime dresses on breezy summer days, or with jeans and a t-shirt in the spring or fall. I love the fact it brings out a balance of boldness and elegance. But don’t let the size of these beauties fool you. They are quite lightweight and delicate. When not wearing them on your favorite beach, these need to be handled lovingly and kept in a pouch or box. Thankfully, Switch provides them both.

Retail value: $545
Rental: $0

#5 CHLOE REESE GOLD TONE HOOP EARRINGS

white woman in pink dress and big gold earrings by Chloe

How do you define a perfect rental? Something you love outrageously but you know you will only wear a couple times a year. These ginormous dangly gold earrings from CHLOE were exactly that. I probably wore them every day I had them (like here with a rented Farm Rio sweater dress), but I knew they’d sit in a drawer should I own them. These were so ridiculous they made me smile every time I’d see them in a mirror. I so wish I could have bought these puppies, but I also knew they’d get the lowest ROI of anything I owned. So I enjoyed them fully for a week and still consider them one of my favorite rentals on SWITCH.

How It Works

When you sign up with Switch, you can choose one of their three membership plans – Gold, which includes one piece at a time for $45/month, Platinum, which includes two pieces at $75/month and Black, which includes three pieces at $95/month.

All plans give you the same access to all of their collections to select what you love. All orders are delivered within two business days, so there’s no need to impatiently check the app for tracking. Switch also provides unlimited shipping both ways and you get to exchange your pieces as often as you like throughout the month. Just send your jewelry back with the pre-paid label and pick a new piece!

Every month, you also earn credits towards purchasing a piece. When I was on the Gold plan, I earned $5 credit every month and when I upgraded to Platinum for the holidays, the credit was $7/month. Trust me — this adds up over time. If you find a piece of jewelry you don’t want to give back, you can buy that piece you’ve borrowed using the earned credits at a member’s discount. I kept a pair of 14K GOLD PLATED CHAINS AND PEARLS TURQUOISE HOOP EARRINGS and WE DREAM IN COLOUR QUILL EARRINGS with the credits I earned up.

Once you pick a plan, you can browse their collection of high-end pieces from the likes of Dior, Gucci and Hermes. You’ll love getting all glammed up for those special occasions (and at a fraction of the price) by renting your gems with Switch. Your jewelry will be mailed to you in a high-end-looking sleek box along with informative cards explaining all the facets of your subscription. The company is based out of LA and has a partnership with ARMOIRE, one of my favorite clothing rental companies. I’ll talk more about Armoire in my next blog!

Things to Consider

The retail value for each piece could range anywhere from $450-$2000, so you don’t want to lose this stuff! Treat the jewelry like your own — the insurance only covers “minor wear and tear.” You do not want to spend $700 on an earring you lost. And since all the pieces are the real deal, you do have to put down a security deposit. Switch ran my AmEx for $500 when I first signed up for the Gold Plan and again when I upgraded to the Platinum Plan, but the hold is released right afterward. This actually makes me feel more confident in the service – knowing people aren’t just keeping items without a consequence. Besides, all things fancy have a price!

The Verdict: Switch Jewelry Rentals

My Switch pieces were all exceptional and made accessorizing my outfits fun. I love that I can experiment with pieces that are out of my budget (or totally outside by comfort zone). And because of their affordable subscription services, you can be a little more daring. The only downside with Switch, other than the deposit, is that pieces can get snatched up by someone else in a jiffy! They generally only have one of each item, so check the website often if you have your heart set on a specific piece.

I loved using the Switch Jewelry service and would highly recommend it. An endless supply of jewelry you can rotate through will have you looking spectacular at nights out, weddings and parties. Soon enough, you’ll be the talk of the town, and people may start gossiping, “Where did she get all that money?!” It’s crazy to think they could do it too at just $45 a month!

And rumor on the street is they’re about to offer handbags, too, with Switch Select. So what are you waiting for? It’s time to switch things up (see what I did there??) with your jewelry closet. I have a code you can use to get $50 shopping credit when you sign up. USE CODE: RTRRealSwitch TO GET $50 SHOPPING CREDIT ON ME! and try for yourself!

Now tell me – have you ever rented jewelry? Do you think you’d try it out on Switch?
